At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £13 million a year to run our care services.

Join us as a Pre Admissions Volunteer!

We are looking for an enthusiastic Pre Admissions Volunteer to join our friendly staff and volunteers at our hospice in Selly Oak

As a Pre-Admissions Volunteer, you will be responsible for contacting families whose appointments are scheduled for the upcoming week and guiding them through the pre-admissions process using a provided checklist. After completing this, you will review your summary with the nurse in charge, highlighting any outstanding tasks or updates regarding the child’s circumstances or stay

Typical Duties

  • Review the diary to compile a list of expected admissions for the upcoming week.
  • Contact families on the list and guide them through the pre-admission checklist, accurately documenting their responses.
  • Provide feedback to the nurse in charge, highlighting any families who cannot be reached or may require follow-up by nursing staff.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is prepared for admission, including patient labels and recent clinic letters.

Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of healthcare, such as nursing, medical administration, or medical secretary experience.
  • Excellent telephone manner and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in various software and applications.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player who considers others.
  • Well-organised with a structured approach to managing tasks.
  • Punctual, reliable, and dependable.

How much time will it take? 

Approximately 3 hours once a week, preferably on the same day each week to ensure continuity in completing pre-admissions.
