Acorns Childrens Hospice are now looking for a Sibling Worker to join our Family Services Team in our Black Country Hospice.  Our Sibling Workers ensure that the siblings of children cared for by Acorns receive therapeutic based support appropriate to their assessed needs both before and after the death of their brother or sister.

About the Role

At Acorns Children’s Hospice we offer specialist palliative care and support for children and their families across the West Midlands. We are there wherever and whenever they need us, in the hospice, community and at home. Our aim at Acorns is to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their child’s life with dedicated teams offering psychological, emotional and practical support. 

As a Sibling Worker you will:

  • Undertake assessment of siblings needs, working with the sibling and their parents and carers
  • Provide pre and post bereavement support on an individual and group basis
  • Take a lead responsibility for coordinating and delivering groups, workshops and occasional residential weekends
  • Work closely with other Sibling Workers to ensure that the objectives of the service are met

About You

You must have:

  • A professional degree level qualification
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience of providing one-to-one therapeutic based support to children and young people
  • Experience of supporting young people/families who are experiencing grief/loss or who are anticipating this
  • Skills in the assessment of needs
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload

  • £27,000 to £37,000 per annum, plus additional allowances
  • Based in our Black Country Hospice (WS5 4NL) with travel across the region

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references.
